Petition for Appointment of Guardian
CASE NUMBER: 26PG-0033367 Disclosure Re: guardianship cases involving Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency-Judge Wood discloses that her step-daughter, Erinn Watts, is the Administrative Branch Director of the Health and Human Services Agency. In that position, Judge Wood’s step-daughter does not have any involvement in the investigation, management, prosecution or defense of guardianship cases. However, the Court makes this disclosure of an employment relationship between an investigating agency and the Court’s first degree relative as required by California Code of Judicial Ethics.
This matter is on calendar for further proceedings on a Petition for Appointment of Guardian of the Person. The Petition was filed by the minor’s great grandmother, Emily Knight. Letters of Temporary Guardianship were requested but denied pending hearing.
Proof of service for the minor and father has been filed, however it is defective. A new Notice of Hearing has not been filed for today’s date, therefore the Court must assume that notice for the previous hearing was untimely provided. Considering that both the minor and father have personally appeared at hearings on this matter, the Court will find them to have sufficient notice. ICWA notification has been properly given, and no tribe has requested to intervene in this matter. The matter has been properly noticed. The Court has reviewed the Court Investigator’s report filed on May 26, 2026, which recommends granting the Petition. The minor previously appeared and stated his objection to the Petition. Consequently, Counsel Kristin Anderson was appointed as counsel for the minor. An appearance is necessary on today’s calendar to confirm appointment and set a contested hearing.
