9-500.47. Firefighter; peace officer; residency requirement; prohibition; exemption; definitions A. A city or town shall not impose any residency requirement on any firefighter or peace officer as a condition of employment. B. This section does not apply to any of the following: 1. Executive-level firefighters and executive-level peace officers. 2. Peace officers employed by a city or town with a population of five thousand persons or less. C. For the purposes of this section: 1. "Firefighter" means a professional firefighter who is a member of a city, town, county or fire district fire department. 2. "Peace officer" means a marshal, police officer and any other city or town officer vested by law with a duty to maintain public order and make arrests.
