On 8/12/2025, Plaintiffs Joy Schuerger and Amber Bissell (collectively, Plaintiffs) filed suit against Defendants County of Los Angeles (COLA) and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, alleging: (1) sex discrimination; (2) harassment; (3) retaliation; (4) failure to prevent; and (5) violation of POBR. On 5/14/2026, Defendant COLA moved to compel Plaintiffs to provide amended, verified responses to Defendant's Request for Production of Documents (RFPs) (Set Two).

Discussion

COLA argues good cause exists to compel Plaintiffs to provide supplemental responses to its RFPs (Set Two). In opposition, Plaintiffs argue that meet and confer was insufficient and that the motion is largely moot as Plaintiffs have since provided further responses. After review, the Court agrees.

First, COLA's motion includes argument concerning categories 72, 73, 74, 75, and 76. Yet, review of the meet and confer letter confirms that these categories were never mentioned in COLA's meet and confer letter. (See Motion, Exh. A.)

Second, because Plaintiffs have since provided 748 pages of documents, the substance of this motion is moot. If COLA contends that Plaintiffs' production remains insufficient, it may move again to compel further responses, after conducting meaningful meet and confer. COLA's meet and confer efforts were insufficient, and this motion could have been potentially avoided. Future failures to meet and confer will result in sanctions. It is so ordered.
