Disclosure: Judge Van Aken discloses that her spouse is employed as a tenured professor at a UC campus. He has no connection to the events of this case. Disqualification is not required in this circumstance and the court concludes that a reasonable person aware of the facts would not reasonably entertain a doubt that the judge would be able to be impartial. (See Rothman, California Judicial Conduct Handbook (4th ed. 2017) 7:46 at pp. 464-465; CCP 170.1(a)(6)(A)(iii).)
Tentative Ruling: Hearing required for disclosure on the record. The court's tentative is to grant the unopposed motion to seal. Because the materials sought to be sealed were filed in connection with a discovery motion, no further findings are required.
