CASE NUMBER: CVPG18-0029719 Disclosure Re: guardianship cases involving Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency-Judge Wood discloses that her step-daughter, Erinn Watts, is the Administrative Branch Director of the Health and Human Services Agency. In that position, Judge Wood’s step-daughter does not have any involvement in the investigation, management, prosecution or defense of guardianship cases. However, the Court makes this disclosure of an employment relationship between an investigating agency and the Court’s first degree relative as required by California Code of Judicial Ethics.
This matter is on calendar for further proceedings on a Petition for Appointment of a Successor Guardian of the Persons and Estate and for hearing on a Petition for Removal of Guardian. The Petitions were filed by the minors’ non-relative care providers, Jacob and Vania Wright, pursuant to a Children’s Services safety plan. Letters of Temporary Guardianship as to the person only were issued on May 15, 2026, and are set to expire today unless further extended. The current Guardian is Deseriee Goodman.
Petition for Removal. The guardian and mother have been personally served. There is no proof of service of the Notice of Hearing and Petition for the father and insufficient information has been provided to permit the Court to dispense with notice. The father may be served by mail.
Petition for Appointment of Successor Guardians. The guardian and mother have been personally served. The matter has been properly noticed. No objections have been raised. The Court has reviewed the Children’s Services report filed on August 10, 2026, which recommends granting the Petition. The Court previously noted that the ICWA-010(A) indicates that the minor children are unsure of any tribal affiliations; however the Court notes ICWA notification was properly given regarding Ms. Goodman’s Petition (also a non-relative care provider) and no tribe requested to intervene in the matter. The mother has indicated that she is not enrolled but may be eligible for enrollment with the Wintu Tribe. Therefore, the petitioners are ORDERED to serve a Notice of Hearing and a copy of the Petition on the Wintu Tribe.
This matter is continued to Monday, October 12, 2026. at 8:30 a.m. in Department 42 for further proceedings regarding both Petitions. The Temporary Guardianship is ORDERED to remain in effect until the continued hearing date. Petitioners are required to file and serve a new Notice of Hearing for the continued hearing date, along with a copy of the Petition for Removal, on the father. Warning: Failure to properly effect service or provide adequate basis to dispense with service as to the necessary parties will result in denial of the Petition. Notice is preserved. No appearance is necessary on today’s calendar.
