GUARDIANSHIP OF ZANDER MCKAY CASE NUMBER: 26PG-0033322 Disclosure Re: guardianship cases involving Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency-Judge Wood discloses that her step-daughter, Erinn Watts, is the Administrative Branch Director of the Health and Human Services Agency. In that position, Judge Wood’s step-daughter does not have any involvement in the investigation, management, prosecution or defense of guardianship cases. However, the Court makes this disclosure of an employment relationship between an investigating agency and the Court’s first degree relative as required by California Code of Judicial Ethics.
This matter is on calendar for further proceedings on a Petition for Appointment of Guardian of the Person filed by the minor’s maternal grandparents, Jose and Norma Rodriguez, and for further proceedings on a Petition for Appointment of Guardian of the Person filed by the minor’s paternal grandmother, Nicole Justice. Letters of Temporary Guardianship issued to Jose and Norma Rodriguez on April 27, 2026, and are set to expire today unless further extended.
Rodriguez Petition. The father has been personally served. The matter has been properly noticed. No objections have been raised. The paperwork appears to be in order.
Justice Petition. A new Notice of Hearing has not been filed and served for today’s date. There is no proof of service of the Notice of Hearing and petition for the maternal grandfather and siblings. The maternal grandfather previously filed an objection to the petition and the siblings are in the custody of the maternal grandparents, therefore the Court will determine the parties to have notice of the proceedings. The matter has been properly noticed. Jose and Norma Rodriguez previously filed an objection.
The Court has reviewed the Court Investigator’s report filed on May 5, 2026, which recommends setting a contested hearing. This matter is also on calendar for confirmation of counsel. Attorney Anderson has been appointed as counsel for the minor.
Lastly, this matter is on calendar for further proceedings on a Petition for Visitation filed by Nicole Justice. The matter has been properly noticed with proof of service on file. The Court will consider visitation at the same time as the competing Petitions for Appointment of Guardianship. An appearance is necessary on today’s calendar for confirmation of counsel and setting of a contested hearing on all Petitions. The temporary Orders are ORDERED to remain in effect until the contested hearing date.
