The Motion to Be Admitted Pro Hac Vice filed by ABRAHAM SHAFI on 05/08/2026 is Granted.
The unopposed application of Daniel Simon (Counsel) to appear pro hac vice on behalf of Defendant Abraham Shafi is GRANTED subject to the filing of proof of service on the State Bar of California.
Counsel is a member in good standing with the State Bars of New York and Texas and is eligible to practice before federal trial and appellate courts. Counsel has been associated with Kalpana Srinivasan, counsel of record, who is an active member of the California State Bar. Counsel has not applied to appear pro hac vice within the past two years. (Simon Decl. ¶¶ 3-8.)
The proof of service for this application does not include the State Bar of California, although the Court notes that declaration of local counsel Srinivasan states that the application was served on the State Bars San Francisco office as required by California Rule of Court 9.40(c)(2).) The Court finds that counsel has satisfied all pleading and notice requirements under Rule 9.40 and GRANTS the application subject to the filing of proof of service upon the State Bar before the hearing on 7/30/2026.
On or before the one-year anniversary of this order, Counsel must pay a renewal fee of $500. (Gov. Code § 70617(e)(2).)
The Court sets a compliance date for Tuesday, 7/27/2027 at 2:30 p.m. in Department 23. If the renewal fee has been paid at least 10 calendar days before the hearing, then no appearance will be required. Counsel must file a notice of renewal with the Court and a declaration showing payment of the renewal fee.
The clerk is directed to serve endorsed-file copies of this order, with proof of service to all counsel and any self-represented parties of record by mail.
